About Us

In 2010, the MCI will celebrate 100 years of service, representing the collective needs of the major manufacturers and importers of motorcycles and associated products. With membership extended to include factors, service providers and trainers, the purpose of our existence still remains firmly with the interests of over 120+ member companies, developing and sustaining an environment where motorcycling can flourish.

In the UK market, environmental, political and socio-demographic changes have created a number of significant industry opportunities. The MCI has identified 3 primary strategic areas of focus, namely;

  • Improving Safety – addressing the reasons why motorcycles currently account for a disproportionate amount of road traffic accidents to improve their safety record.
  • Environment – developing a position of strength derived from consumer and government demands for reduced emissions, congestion and costs.
  • Increasing the use of two wheeled transport – breaking down barriers to motorcycle and scooter use, gaining acceptance of two wheelers in government policies and making motorcycling more accessible and attractive to wider customer segments.

You can read more about the work of the Association in the documents below.

The MCI is steered by members for members. The Board of Directors consists of appointed directors - representing the largest volume motorcycle manufacturers/importers (Piaggio, Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha and Kawasaki) and elected members – voted in to represent the needs of their specific membership category.

The Board of Directors works closely with MCI staff and member companies. It is responsible for setting the strategic direction of the Association, budget allocation and the control and monitoring of performance in relation to specified goals. Click Here to read more about Board of Directors.

I hope that you will take the time to read our website and learn more about the MCI and the broader issues within the market that we are working with. At a time of dynamic change and increased pressures, it is vital for our industry to put forward a united front. Our legitimacy in representing the whole of the PTW industry depends on retaining a high penetration of the sector and if you are not already a member, I would urge you to join us - a collective voice can lead to a brighter future for us all.

Miss Tara Glen, Chief Operating Officer, E. P. Barrus Limited and Chairman, MCI
