ABOUT THE MCI The Motor Cycle Industry Association represents the supply side of the UK Motorcycle Industry with members including Motorcycle Manufactures & Importers, Accessory & Component Manufactures and Importers, Wholesalers and Marketing Services Click here to see a full Members listing. The MCI’s mission statement is "To develop and sustain an environment whereby motorcycling can flourish" So how do we do this? In summary, we spend much of our time lobbying and communicating with the European Commission and the UK Government to ensure that motorcycling is given the best opportunity to thrive in the UK. We are also the primary source for information on the UK industry producing a unique range of statistical products focussed on new registration data of two wheeled vehicles in the UK. The MCI is also involved in research into trends and issues within the Industry and also produces specific reports on many areas of motorcycle usage. During 2003 it became obvious that there were an unusually high number of motorcycle fatalities and accidents. Many theories as to why this might happen were put forward – The hot weather? A good economy? Both good reasons for more people taking to 2 wheels. Whatever the reason the MCI decided to take action and produce a 19 point strategy designed to make motorcycling safer for everyone. We immediately created a new department charged with improving Motorcycle Safety to deliver this plan. Part of the plan was to create something directly for the riders – hence the creation of the fantastic DVD ‘A Street, A Track, An Open Road’. The MCI, although not a public facing body, organise a number of initiatives throughout the year aimed at promoting the industry. ‘National Motorcycle Week,’ encompassing Ride to Work Day designed at educating people to the benefits of using two wheels, e.g. more economical, lower emissions, more convenient and a fun way to travel Click here for more information on Ride to Work Day. We are also responsible for organising the International Motor Cycle & Scooter Show held annually at the NEC, which is the best place to see everything motorcycle related under one roof.
