Every rider knows that the lightweight and agility of Powered Two Wheelers make them the perfect vehicle for beating congestion with a smile on your face. Unfortunately, those same attributes make them easy pickings for thieves; bike theft hasn’t gone away, just because it’s no longer front-page news!
However, many PTWs on sale today come equipped with a variety of anti-theft measures, but until now there had been no way for buyers to compare these important features on different models.
That’s why the MCIA has introduced MCIA SECURED.
MCIA SECURED is a rating system that awards a star for each recognised security feature fitted to a new PTW. The more standard-fit security features, the more stars, up to a maximum of five for motorcycles of 125cc (or 11kW for electric power) or over, or three for motorcycles up to 125cc/11kW and scooters.
The elements that qualify for the MCIA SECURED five-star rating are:
The first three of the above comprise the three-star rating system for scooters and light motorcycles.
These elements can be either fitted by the factory, importer or franchised dealer, but must be fitted as standard to all examples of the star-rated models that are available through the manufacturer’s official UK network.
From now on, you don’t have to be in the dark about security when considering a new PTW, so you can find a product that meets your needs and compare it with others on the market.
As technology evolves and new security products are introduced, so will MCIA SECURED, meaning that the items required to gain a star will change over time, to ensure that the most relevant security is highlighted.
Look out for the window decal in your local dealer to see if they're part of the MCIA SECURED scheme.
The logos below signify the star rating of a particular PTW and will appear in the advertising and promotional material from participating manufacturers.
